Just heard about a center that takes only handicapped children. Most are from foster homes. The state pays the foster parents and the center. Shouldn’t the ‘parents’ get 1/2 pay?

The parents should get some form of pay, but the center is caring for them for half a day, so they should get some too.

I have a while to decide what I want to do, I’m only a junior in high school, but I’m looking into working in a children’s home for mentally handicapped kids. Does anyone know if that requires a special degree? Or maybe just a nursing degree?

Nursing or Medical degree is necessary but u need to show allot of interest in it also

to slow the hell down. You should see these people careening down the subway platforms here in DC, just creating havoc, then if you say something to them, like “slow down”, they bring up all that handicapped, lack of mobility crap.
Isn’t it time they were made to follow the same rules as everyone else.

They shouldn’t need to be told, respect for your fellow human beings should be enough. I have traveled all over the world including holidays in the US deep south, I have never met more polite and respectful people, so I’m very surprised at your comments.

i would call the venue and ask, usually you need proof of handicap. if not try craigslist or ebay for the tickets.

First the special olympics is obviously a joke, second i keep hearing about all these blind people and stuff climbing mount everest, and all these handicapped people that keep trying to accomplish ridiculaous tasks that nobody really cares about! It like “oh cool your bling and you could skydive well whoopdeedoo! You could still do it better if you wern’t handicapped or in a wheelchair.” What are they trying to prove?

We have a one piece unit handicap shower and it works great except for I get soaked when I shower my son. I’m wondering if anyone knows of any shower doors that are made for handicap showers that maybe only go half way up so you can still stand behind them and shower a child. Or maybe someone has found something creative that has worked. Any ideas would be great!!!! Thanks

Good old fashion garbage bag works wonders. or a rain.
With the garbage bag just rip a hole at the top that does not open and 2 on each sides for the arms. Works very well.

Does anyone know where I can rent a scooter and a handicapped accessible minivan in Las Vegas. My mom doesn’t walk well and we usually get a wheelchair for her but I think it would be easier on me if we could rent one of those motorized scooters. If anyone knows a scooter rental place and rental car place that has accessible vans, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

For scooters you should contact this company. They specialize in rentals to tourists. I think they run about $ 40 a day. You can ask them about a van rental. I am not sure about that.
